Capital City (of Illinois that is)

yay for weekends! ours was just as entertaining as i hoped it would be!

we saw SCOTS (Southern Culture on the Skids) in Springfield, IL which, of course was amazing! I'm not going to lie, hearing banana puddin' live is something I've always dreamed of :)

Then, I had the pleasure of staying at a fellow tiki friend's home so we wouldn't have to drive back. Boy oh boy did I enjoy staying there! I didn't take a lot of pictures, they are somewhat private people but have an AMAZING home. I wish I would have documented the tiki mug collection that was in every room. Bookcases and bookcases full! Tiki bar downstairs. Every room straight out of Atomic Ranch. *Sigh* Home ownership...

Below is a picture from the bathroom, with loads of vintage chalkware! That is only half the collection, it went on and on!

I spotted this in the dark and knew immediately what it was! Apparently, they got it for a steal on ebay a couple years back. I originally saw it on this post at Retro Renovation. Go Witco! Never thought I'd see one in real life :) They also have all kinds of amazing legit Shag artwork hanging around.

Some other sites included this motel, which I'm pretty sure was a death trap. Cool sign, sketchy area of town.

Then, there were various awesome pictures I took on the man's iPhone (an item of which I am not cool enough to have). Perhaps I will be able to post them soon.

Did a little thrifting while in Springfield as well. Got myself a new milkglass vase from E.O. Brody ("my" brand) and a vintage souvenier tray from Arizona! Shall post some of those pics soon too.

What did YOU do this weekend?

  1. Glad to hear that you didn't slip on a chicken bone! :) That house looks and sounds absolutely awesome. I keep hoping that I will find one of those globe art pieces under a table at a yard sale for a buck. Dream on, teenage queen. Holy heck, I can't even *remember* what I did this weekend. Must not have been too good!

  2. Sounds like you had a lot more fun than we did. We had an "estate sale" of the "living" variety to sell all the furniture my daughter and SIL had staged their house with...which had to go, since the house sold.

  3. I'm still unpacking boxes full of my crap here. So much for my weekend! :)

  4. The Bel Aire is the local crack motel... In the alley behind it is also the place to locate hookers in Springfield... They tend to wear tweety bird t-shirts and be missing a majority of their teeth!

  5. @Anonymous: I'm not surprised!! haha that's why we just did a drive-by, and stayed outta the alley!

  6. I used to live in Springfield many many years ago. Not one of my most favorite times, but thanks to Sean and Jamie at Sangamon Valley Roots Revival, they saved my life and my sanity. And you are from Champaign, I'm sure we may know some of the same people. :)

  8. I haven't been back to that part of the Midwest in ages. Lived in Chicago for about 6 years after that and finally made my way back to California. I know that my ex (who lived in Champaign for quite some time) opened a barber's shop in, I believe, Arnold not too long ago called Krummel's.
